HTBC 2019-2020 Season Cancellation

posted Apr 26, 2020, 12:24 PM by Vu Dao   [ updated Apr 26, 2020, 12:25 PM ]

We hope that you are all keeping safe and respecting physical distancing as we all navigate through this challenging time.  As we continue to monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation closely, we are actively following the guidelines and recommendations as outlined by the Public Health Agency of Canada and local health authorities.  The health and safety of our members, coaches, and the community are extremely important to us and we must all do our best to continue to help ease the spread of COVID-19.

After much consideration, the remainder of the HTBC 2019-2020 season has been officially CANCELLED. While this was a difficult decision (and as much as we would love to see you all again on the courts), it is the right choice to minimize risk to you and your families, given the uncertainty of how long this current situation will go on for.

We continue to navigate together and would like to thank you, our members, for another fantastic season. We would also like to thank our volunteers for helping the club run smoothly and our coaches for their dedication on building fantastic coaching programs.

Please continue to practice physical distancing and keep informed by our health officials and government. As always, please stay safe and we hope to see you again soon.

Cheers,

Vu

HTBC Cancelled Several Sundays in a Row

posted Mar 14, 2020, 8:18 AM by Eugene Lee

Sunday, March 14th - The Holy Trinity High School facility is closed.

We received the following communication:

The Ministry of Education has issued a ministerial order to close all publicly funded schools in Ontario from March 14 to April 5, 2020 due to concerns about the COVID-19.  We recognize the significant impact this decision will have on families, students, schools as well as the broader community, but this precaution is necessary to keep everyone safe.  That being said, OCSB has decided to cancel all community use permits from March 14th to April 5th. Permit fees will not be charged between March 14th to April 5th.  A lot may happen prior to April 5th so you will receive updates prior to that time. Thank you

Dec 12th, 2019 - The Christmas party will be held on Sunday, Dec 15th.  However, badminton won't open until 12pm because the school requires use of the gym from 10am to 12pm.  The coaching classes will not be disrupted.  The coaching classes will continue to run from 10am to 3pm.  As well, there will be students from the Ottawa University Badminton Team.  We will be helping the raise funds for their team.  We look forward to their visit!

Start of the 2019-2020 Season

posted Sep 7, 2019, 11:12 AM by Eugene Lee

Sept 7th, 2019 - My dear fellow Holy Trinity Badminton Club Members, tomorrow we are beginning the season.  So, dust off that badminton racket, dig those court shoes out of the closet, and go onto youtube to remind yourself how to play.  We expect the 2019-2020 season to be best season ever!  The coaching will be provided by Corey, Alan, YiYang, Nia, and Giulian.  And, don't forget your elected directors are: Mike Tran, Vu Dao, and myself.

We hope everyone had a great Summer holiday!

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

And, we want to remind everyone that if you had any payment troubles, we will handle all of the cases tomorrow.  We've had some accounting issues over the summer - not because we had missing money, but actually the opposite, we had extra unaccounted money and needed to run a quick internal audit.

As for the coaching, Alan will be helping to coach the Advanced program with Corey.  YiYang will be taking over Minh's program, and Nia and Giulian will be coaching with Corey all of the classes in the first four hours (10am to 2pm).

Xmas Badminton Available (Dec 23rd 2018)

posted Dec 23, 2018, 8:53 AM by Eugene Lee

Dear HTBC Member,

We wanted to remind you that there IS badminton tomorrow.  Everything is as regularly scheduled.  There will be regular coaching classes, and regular organized play in the cafetorium.

Since we've never had a gym rental so close to Christmas, we aren't able to anticipate the attendance level.  That is, we don't how busy it will be tomorrow.  We do expect quite a few one time guests - as there are a lot of the university students back for the holidays.  We intend to let guests in tomorrow, so long as it's not overcrowded.

If we don't see you tomorrow, on behalf of the entire HTBC team, we wish you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year.

After tomorrow's HTBC session, will meet again Jan 13th (cancelled: Dec 30th & Jan 6th).

2017-18 Registration is Full

posted Jul 31, 2017, 9:49 AM by Eugene Lee

July 31, 2017 - Thank you to all who have registered with the Holy Trinity Badminton Club.  We're very happy to announce that we have a full membership.  We have 31 Sundays booked for the year, although, we should probably expect up to 2 days cancelled by the school board.  We'll start the year Sept 10th, 2017 and run until June 3rd, 2018.  This year, we have reduced the total number of members, so that our members will have more play time.  As part of this goal, we're asking our members to please not bring guests.  At least for the first couple months, we will have a strict no guest policy.  If you are still interested in joining the club, you can try emailing us at htbc@odba.ca, and request to join the waiting list.  But, there's no assurances you will be able to join.  We also offer private coaching lessons at 2pm to 3pm.  Again, if you are interested in the coaching rates, please email us at htbc@odba.ca for details.  We look forward to meeting everyone Sept 10th.  We will send another email reminding all of our members of the first HTBC club meet.

Happy Easter! -- Badminton is cancelled this Sunday and more!

posted Apr 15, 2017, 6:20 PM by Linda Zheng   [ updated Apr 18, 2017, 11:54 AM by Eugene Lee ]

Dear HTBC member,

This is a reminder that tomorrow's club meet is cancelled for Easter.  We will resume our club meets April 23rd.  The last club meet is June 4th with 1 more additional cancellation (Victoria Day May 21st).

Junior Districts Results

We are huge supporters of the ODBA Junior District Championships.  Last Sunday we played a huge role in its organizing and operations.  So, we were very happy to see that there were 20 juniors from the Holy Trinity club participating this year.  A special nod to the following juniors: Chi-Chung Cheung, Davin Dai, Edwin Chen, Emily Yu, Emma Souannhaphanh, Ethan Luo, Ethan Qiu, Frank Yu, Jackie Chen, Jenny Lei, Jonathan Chan, Kashyap Achar, Kevin Bai, Matthew Chan, Maxim Chouinard, Mika Toktamyssov, Ryan Girard, and Suvansh Chhabra.  For more info, please go to: http://jrDistricts.odba.ca

Next Season's Registration

For existing members only, registration will open April 30th, and payments must be received before July.  Registration will open to the public in July.  Be warned that last season, by the end of July we reached registration capacity.  On April 30th, go to: http://htbc.odba.ca/registration/

Club Photo Day Next Week (April 23rd)

On April 23rd, at 11:55am, please join us in the main gym for our annual club photo day.  Please wear your Holy Trinity shirt.  And, if you don't have one, please purchase one for $20.  Our club photo is very important to us and to our club.  It shows the diversity and the club pride to everyone that happens to fall upon our club website.  For those in coaching, please be present for the photo.

Club Directorship

On May 14th, we will elect our club directors for next year.  There are 3 Director positions; and, myself, Mike Tran, and Vu Dao intend to run again.  Current members (excluding coaches, assistant coaches, and juniors) are permitted to apply for candidacy.  For those interested, please email me your intent of candidacy and position before Sat May 6th.  The Holy Trinity Badminton Club runs under a Not For Profit model. The 3 Director positions are not paid positions, and is intended to represent the interests of the club and its members.  On Sunday May 7th, your candidates of choice will be announced.

Volunteering as a Club Exec

If you are interested in helping to run the game board next season, please email me back.  Adults or Juniors are welcome to apply.  We are looking for about 8 to 10 execs that can help run the game board, help set up the nets, and take down the nets too.

Badminton over the Summer

While the HTBC club does NOT run over the Summer months, there are clubs and camps that do.  For the Juniors, we recommend joining the Soong Badminton Academy Camps or the RA Centre Summer Badminton Camps.  For the adults, we recommend the Capital Summer Badminton Club or the RA Centre Badminton Club (there's a Summer deal, but it's not advertised).  There's a few more options, but they're hard to find.  If you're lucky, you might find some options by fishing through the listings on the ODBA website: http://www.badmintonottawa.com/WhereToPlay.php.

Thank you everyone who read all the way through.  You deserve a cookie!

Sincerely,
Eugene Lee, Mike Tran, Vu Dao, and Corey Hum
